Remedios Estrada Chu, fondly known as Remy, was a shining example of resilience and generosity. Her life from 1955 to 2014 was a testament to overcoming adversity. Her journey from childhood responsibilities through her impactful career as a pioneering Postmaster in the Philippines and a trailblazing educator in the UAE, to her valiant battle with cancer, highlights her unwavering spirit. Remy’s enduring legacy through her philanthropic efforts and educational institutions reflects her deep commitment to empowering others and enriching lives.
Her story continues to inspire.
And we will forever miss her.
Remy's kindness knew no bounds. Her acts of generosity and thoughtfulness illuminated the lives of everyone she touched, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and love.
The nurturing founder of three schools, Remy instilled in children a profound love for learning and positive self-belief. Her love of teaching and unwavering support made her not just a headmistress, but a guiding light for countless bright young minds.
Her optimism and ability to see the light in others made life beautiful. Even in times of challenge and adversity, she continued to bring joy to countless people around her, forever being remembered by her magical charm and spirit.
My Tita Remy taught me how to drive a manual car at the age of 11. She also gave me my first tattoo. When I look at it, I think of her. Love you Tita.
Choose JOY above all. “There are so many things about cancer that are beyond our control, but how we react is entirely up to us. We are in full control of our own attitude and cancer has no power over joy. I’m going to say that again, cancer has no power over joy. It cannot defeat your spirit. Choose to be joyful and glad that you are alive. Lean into the Lord. Put your trust in Him and never give up hope.” These are the words I won’t forget every time I thought of Tita Remy. I met Tita Remy, when I was only 19 years old. I was a newbie, young, naïve and was living independently in Dubai. Thankfully, I met her children Ian and Lalaine, became friends and the rest is history. They were my second family when I used to live in Dubai and still keep in touch from time to time.. Tita Remy was a strong woman, knew exactly what she wanted! What brings me pleasure or inspires me in both mind and spirit, is watching a woman of strength in action. A woman who is steeled to confront the challenges she is facing or standing with those she loves. That was Tita Remy for me… Nothing is more beautiful than a woman of strength who offers hope because she has found it to one caught in the undertow of finances or even illness. Nothing is more beautiful than a woman of strength who will love their child unconditionally despite their questionable life choices. That was Tita Remy for me… She was an epitome of a strong woman for me and I will always look up to her. She will always be an inspiration to many including me who had a chance to witness her greatness as a person, a mother, an empowered woman to look up to! She will be missed by many.. I miss you Tita Remy.. xoxo in heaven…
Remembering my dearest friend like no other – the one I would call up at 2am in the morning even when she was in another country – when I needed guidance and reassurance. She was just like sunshine to many – and many more I couldn’t have even imagined. And we count ourselves lucky to have had her enduring presence in our lives, even though she’s not here with us. I miss you every single day…
As a child, I always wondered what my purpose was. Seeing my fondness for the arts from a young age, My Inang used to call me her "Leonardo Da Vinci". Looking back, I think it was that belief in me and those simple words of encouragement that have shaped me into the creative person that I am today, who strives to achieve my full potential. One of the biggest gifts you can give to someone is the gift of believing in them. Inang made everyone feel that they could achieve any dream, no matter how big. I miss you Inang ♥️
When we used to go back home to the Philippines, we would always go back to La Terrazzo. So many cool memories are connected to that place, from the sound of the karaoke coming from the pavilion, to swimming in the different pools and that really cool treehouse. I also remember that Inang had a spa built there for me. It even had a sign that said "Isabelle's Spa"
Those karaoke nights, when everyone would take turns belting out their favourite songs and Inang’s go-to song would be “Colours of the Wind”.
